Number 9  Comino island

Evaluation 2,5 stars - what to see in Malta

Description & advice

Located between the islands of Malta and Gozo, the small island of Comino is famous for its magnificent Blue Lagoon and its beach. The water in this lagoon is indeed a really splendid turquoise blue color when the sun is shining. Attracting many tourists, I recommend you get there with the first ferry to avoid the crowds. This car-free island, of only 3.5 km², has only one hotel and one campsite. The island tour can be done easily in about 3-4 hours. The highest point of Comino is the fortified watchtower of Sainte-Marie, built in 1618 and from where you will have a nice panoramic view.

Number 10  Ir-Rabat

Evaluation 2 stars - what to see in Malta

Description & advice

The capital of Gozo is Ir-Rabat, also called Victoria. This city is both attractive and interesting to visit to understand the history of Gozo. In addition to this, from its Citadel, you will enjoy a superb 360-degree view of the surrounding countryside. At the entrance to the Citadel, you will particularly appreciate the beautiful Cathedral: Our Lady of the Assumption of Gozo. A walk outside the Citadel is also recommended. You can for example stop at the Independence Square to stroll through the daily market, and walk to St. George’s Basilica.

Number 14  Gozo’s salt pans

Evaluation 1,5 stars - what to see in Malta

Description & advice

In the north of Gozo, just after Qbajjar bay and west of Marsalforn, you can see the salt pans cut into the rock. They are around 350 years old and extend for approximately 3 km along the coast. They are part of the Gozitan tradition of sea salt production, which has been passed down from generation to generation. Once collected, the salt is stored and processed in the nearby caves, also dug out of the rock.

Number 15  MÄ¡arr ix-Xini

Evaluation 1,5 stars - what to see in Malta

Description & advice

Mgarr Ix Xini is a fairly rustic and authentic beach. In this beautiful little narrow bay surrounded by cliffs, you will surely have a great time in the water, with your mask and snorkel for example. After a little climbing, you can also visit the Tower of Mgarr Ix Xini. Also, don’t miss the magnificent hiking trails near the surrounding cliffs. To get to Mgarr Ix Xini, you will need to use your rental car as there is no public transport serving this beach. Be careful when going there, there is only one road, which is very narrow and has tricky slopes in the turns.
