About me

Dan's childhoof - About me

My name is Dan, I grew up in Paris suburbs, where I had the chance to live in a melting pot of friends from all over the world. My childhood in France was my first cultural discovery experience, living, eating and playing with friends from many different countries like: China, Mauritania, Cape Verde, Algeria, Portugal, West Indies, Mali, Poland, Morocco… and much more.

Having a double culture franco-vietnamese, I guess that it has also influenced strongly the development of my curiosity about the world, and my attraction to foreign cultures. When you have been raised on one hand with rice, nuoc-mâm and Phở 🍜 (the best dish in the world for me!), and on the other hand, baguette and smelly cheese, you know that the world has too many good things to offer.

Then, thanks to education, I got other opportunities to travel, studying in Erasmus program in Greece, doing an internship in the USA during engineering school (now you might understand why I’m a bit crazy about organisation and planning 🤓) and participating to international seminars in India, China and Brazil during my EMBA.

Also, with sport, I had the chance to discover other countries during international kickboxing championships in Italy, Argentina, Romania, Thailand, Greece, Czech Republic…

Business trip in Japan

I have discovered the world making the most of the generous french holydays. I spend indeed most of what I earn in this travel passion, my father always told me:

Invest your money in your head because it’s the only place where you will never lose it

So education and discovering new countries have always been my main spending priorities, whether for myself, or for others through an association that I particularly apreciate and of which I am sponsor and ambassador: Children of the Mekong.
Finally, I also oriented my professional career to international business development in order to travel more for work too.

Early training at beach gym in Cape Verde about Where2travel

The Beach Gym Club“, early in the morning on an island of Cape Verde.

Travel is also very linked for me to photography. It’s been now around 10 years that I practice photography passionately, and it’s really something I won’t be able to dissociate from my trips. In my ebooks, you will find advice to take better pictures during your trips according to the different places mentioned.

For me, getting lost and taking pictures in an authentic neighborhood early in the morning, immersed into the local population, is the kind of moment I prefer. Photography and now more and more video making, are the best way to relive my travel memories. By the way, if you were wondering, know that I only present my own photos on this website.

Friends no matter what“, during the night in a poor street of India.

I have traveled to almost 80 countries so far and I aim to visit all of them, taste (almost) every dishes and discover all the cultures. People often ask me what is the country I prefer, I am not able to answer that because for me, every places have wonderful things to offer. Even the poorest or disorganised places can offer you magnificent scenery or provoke you a deep emotion.

I’m not a professional blogger who travel all year long, but being a travel addict, I worked hard to create as many travel opportunities as possible and to develop this website. I have gained skills, a state of mind and knowledge that I now propose to share with you.

Why did I create Where2travel?

This website is a way for me to gather my memories and knowledge accumulated during my travels and to share it largely, to allow others organizing easily their own adventures. I take time to prepare my travels and even more to present you these information on this website and in my ebooks, so I hope that you will find real benefits. In fact, I’m sure that you will save time for the organisation of your trip and also during it, that you will not miss important spots to see.

Like 99% of us, I’m not a full time traveler , so I completely recognise the need to optimise our trip preparations and especially make the most of our time once we are there.

That’s why my travel guides gather all you really need to know, focusing on the main spots to visit. In fact, I created the website I would have liked to read before visiting a new country with:

  • ^ A travel video that focus only on the country, its landscapes, the most interesting places to visit and local inhabitants. A video that not only entertain me but really learn me things and help me decide what I want to see in the country.
  • ^ Clear and simple explanations about each spots I want to discover, with nice pictures, evaluations, useful website links to have up to date information such as opening hours or entrance fee.
  • ^ An interactive map, that shows me exactly where are these nice places to visit. In addition to the one presented on the website, you will receive a map to download on your mobile (to be use as a GPS) with my downloadable ebooks.
  • ^ Practical information to decide when to go to this country such as meteorological data, tourist influx, dates of the local cultural events or seasonal natural attractions.
  • ^ Useful information to know how to get around in the country, what are my options to sleep, what dish I could taste, what are the main risks I need to pay attention to, how can I move across the country and what is the local life cost.
Dan from Where2travel

I also created this website because I really love to talk about travel and to share beauties of this world through pictures and videos. I started with my friends and family of course, giving them advice to visit countries. However, I had noticed that our discussions and the few pictures I was showing them were not enough for them to organize their own trips. So I came to create these practical resources that you can now find on this website and in my ebooks. Where2travel is the best way for me to share these information, not anymore only with my family and friends, but potentially with much more people across the World.

Traveling is a way to make people better: it kills your prejudices and narrow-mindedness. It also remind you how small you are in this world.

Where2travel intends to help independent travelers discover by themselves as much as possible in the different countries visited, while respecting the environment and the locals. Rather than staying in a large All Inclusive hotel for an entire stay, I hope this site will encourage you to truly experience the culture of the country and thereby participate in the local economy. Finally, traveling also often reminds us of how lucky we are, and gives us great moments of happiness both when we are there and when we think about it when we return. This is why I like to think that my work on Where2travel can simply contribute to the happiness of other people and to participate in their personal enrichment.
