Temperature, sunshine hours, precipitations all year round
Malta has a typical Mediterranean climate, with hot and dry summers, warm and sporadically wet autumns and springs, and short cool winters with some rainfall. The Maltese Islands have most of the time a pleasantly sunny climate with a daily average of around 12 hours of sunshine in summer, going down to 5 to 6 hours in mid-winter. Best season to visit Malta
Summer in Malta
Summers are hot, dry and very sunny in Malta. Fortunately, these summer temperatures are often mitigated by the cooler sea breezes. The average temperature is 24 to 32 °C (75 to 90 °F) . The island is very crowded in July and August, so prices are much higher.
Enjoying the beaches of Malta in summer is excellent because the water temperature is warmer. For nature lovers, also go to the island of Gozo, where you will find very good diving spots. As Malta is fairly flat, walking and cycling are also fun activities when temperatures are not too hot.
Spring and Autumn in Malta
Spring and fall are generally cooler, except when the occasional African winds bring their high temperatures. The average temperature ranges from 18 to 28 °C (64 to 82 °F).
Autumn is the best time to visit Malta and have a quiet vacation. The landscape remains magnificent, the sea is still warm, and you will still have many sunny days. In addition, far fewer tourists visit the island, making Malta a great destination for enjoying the beach in the fall.
Spring in Malta is also ideal for a relaxing holiday, but the sea water will obviously be less hot after the winter episode. Most tourist places such as churches, museums, forts and other attractions are not very crowded. Month of May and early June are also good times for sunbathing on the beach.
Winter in Malta
Winters in Malta are mild, sometimes with some cold winds from the north and northeast of Europe. During the low season, even if the temperature is still pleasant, it is less recommended to visit Malta because there is a lot of precipitation. The temperature varies between 12 and 18 °C (54 and 64 °F).
If you are not a big fan of the beach and you don’t mind the rain either, Malta can still be visited in winter. You can even be lucky and have a week without rain. Therefore, Christmas and the New Year can also be good times to visit Malta. Also, from February 21st to 25th, you can attend the Valletta Carnival. To conclude, apart from these special occasions, prices for Malta are much more affordable in winter.
