Weather in Cuba
Temperature, sunshine hours, precipitations all year round
The climate in Cuba is subtropical with a dry and relatively cool season from late November to mid-April and a rainy and humid season from late April to early November. The average temperature over the year is around 26 °C (80 °F) and the island gets lots of sunshine. Cuba’s climate therefore makes it a very pleasant holiday destination almost all year round.
However, from May to October, the weather is warmer and for some muggy. In addition, September and October are the months when hurricanes and tropical storms are the most active. Like everywhere else in the Caribbean, these are therefore months to rather avoid. If you still want to travel in summer, prefer June and July to August and September because of the risk of hurricanes.

Winter in Cuba
Winter in Cuba is pleasantly warm in the north with temperatures around 26 °C (80 °F) from December to February in Havana. In the south, it is warmer with temperatures around 28 °C (82 °F). Rain is rare, but more likely in the north, which is exposed to cold air masses from the United States. These short cold periods, from December to March, can bring cooler days and nights, especially in the northwestern part like Havana or Varadero. During these months, the temperature sometimes drops to around 50 °C (80 °F) in Havana. The south coast of the island will therefore be more suitable for beach and swimming holidays.
Spring in Cuba
The sunshine in Cuba peaks in spring. Late March and April are the best months to visit Cuba, especially if you want to travel to different parts of Cuba and opt for a beach vacation as well. It is the dry season in Cuba and temperatures easily reach an average of 28 °C (82 °F).
Spring is also an interesting month for viewing wildlife, especially migratory birds from North and South America that cross paths with species endemic to Cuba.
Between March and May depending on the year, it is also the period of the impressive migration of red and yellow crabs. These crabs travel tens of kilometers between their burrows in the forest and the sea where they lay their eggs. At the risk of their life, they also cross major highways to reach their destination, and can sometimes cause problems with punctures for motorists.
Summer in Cuba
The hottest months are July and August. The daytime temperature can reach up to 34 °C (93 °F) and the humid air makes the heat stifling. The rains are often intense, but they mostly occur in the form of showers or thunderstorms in the late afternoon. Due to the hurricane season which begins in summer, it is best to visit Cuba in early summer, June or July rather than August or September.
