Map of Iceland

The most beautiful spots to visit in one map

Let me show you exactly where to go in Iceland to find the best sightseeing places thanks to my map of Iceland. Each number on the map below corresponds to the numbers you have seen in my video of Iceland and to the photos presented on the page What to do in Iceland.

I went all around the island with my rental car, using the very convenient ring road, so I can show you the main attractions in the different regions:

In my Iceland travel guide in ebook or printed, you will also find advised itineraries if you want to spend few days, one or several weeks in Iceland. More of that, you will also get a free map to download on your mobile with all the best attractions to see. Consequently, you will be able to use it as a GPS  offline or connected to the network to head to the 45 spots presented in my ebook.

West of Iceland

Main places to visit in the western region

First, in the Southwestern part, don’t miss the lively town of Reykjavik, the touristic golden circle sites (Þingvellir national park which is a UNESCO heritage site, Geysir, Gullfoss) or the Blue lagoon where you will spend a very relaxing moment. These attractions will be a good start if you are coming to Iceland for a long weekend

In the northwestern part, you have to see the famous Kirkjufell mountain and the beautiful Djúpalónssandur beach both located on the beautiful Snæfellsnes peninsula.

South of Iceland

Nice attractions to see in the southern region

Then, in the South, discover the gorgeous waterfalls of Skógafoss, Seljalandsfoss, or Svartifoss. Also don’t miss the impressive cliffs of Dyrhólaey where you will be able to see puffins (When to see puffins) and the stunning canyon of Fjaðrárgljúfur.

In the Southern region, you will also see the emblematic Jökulsárlón, the beautiful beaches of Reynisfjara, Diamond beach or the one with the famous plane wreck of Sólheimassandur.

Center of Iceland

Amazing hiking in the center of the island

If you have an all-terrain vehicle, you will be able to reach the center of the island and visit the gorgeous and colorful region of Landmannalaugar. My hikes across these mountains and volcanos are probably among the best memories I have of Iceland.

You can easily spend few days in Landmannalaugar’s camp site, in order to enjoy the several splendid hikes around it.

East of Iceland

Sites not to miss in the eastern region

On the eastern part, I would advise you to stop in the nice town of Hofn and try its traditional restaurants where you can eat the most delicious crayfish for instance. Nearby, you should definitely stop at Stokksnes peninsula to admire this unspoiled natural landscape.

Mjóifjörður narrow fjord is also a must see in the region, where you will see nice waterfalls, icelandic horses and mountains landscape.

I also really enjoyed the charming and colorful town of Seyðisfjörður for its unique atmosphere.

North of Iceland

Where to go in the northern region?

In northern part, one of the main things to do is to see the most powerful waterfall in Europe Dettifoss. Its water flow is really impressive to observe and the spectacle of this waterfall is very picturesque.

The Mitvan region, with its lakes, is also a good place to visit. In addition to that, you can relax in one of the best natural baths in Iceland. Nearby, do not miss the atypical site of Hverir, an amazing area of volcanic activity where you will see hot sources of boiling mud and smoke emissions from the earth.

Finally, I advise you to see the picturesque waterfall of Goðafoss. I am sure you will appreciate its particular circular shape, as well as its magnificent color nuances.
